Alpine Armeria Seeds 'Morning Star Deep Pink'

  • Deep pink pompom flowers
  • Evergreen grasslike foliage
  • Ideal for pots and rockeries
  • Good for coastal gardens

Small but colourful, Armeria ‘Morning Star Deep Pink’ is ideal for containers and rock gardens, producing a profusion of deep pink pompom flowers bobbing on slender upright stems above clumps of grasslike evergreen leaves. Deadhead it regularly, and it will flower all summer long.

Armeria ‘Morning Star Deep Pink’ will usually flower in the first year after sowing. Also known as seathrift, this compact perennial is ideal for coastal gardens.

Sow indoors

Soak the seeds in warm water for a few hours. Sow in pots of pre-watered compost, just covering with a fine layer of compost or vermiculite. Place out of direct sun at about 20°C and allow 2-4 weeks to germinate, keeping moist but not wet. Move to a cooler temperature after germination.

Grow on

Transplant when seedlings are large enough to handle. Grow on in a sheltered spot outdoors, such as a cold frame or unheated greenhouse.

Plant out

Plant out in a full sun in well-drained soil. Also suitable for containers, raised beds or rockeries.

Aftercare

Remove faded flowers during summer to prolong blooming. Remove any dead foliage in spring. Add grit to improve drainage where necessary. Remove faded flowers during summer to prolong blooming.
