Dianthus Seeds 'Arctic Fire'

Fast-growing and quick to flower, dwarf Dianthus ‘Arctic Fire’ looks as pretty as a picture in summer, with mats of foliage smothered in white flowers with deep red-pink centres. This compact evergreen perennial looks lovely in borders, containers and as ground cover.

Sow indoors

Sow on the surface of pre-watered seed compost, in pots or trays, lightly pressing into the surface. Place in a propagator or bag at around 20°C and allow 2-4 weeks for germination. Remove lid or bag and keep in cooler conditions after germination.

Grow on

Transplant when seedlings are large enough to handle. Grow on in a sheltered spot outdoors, such as a cold frame or unheated greenhouse.

Plant out

Plant out in a full sun in well-drained soil. Also suitable for containers, raised beds or rockeries.

Aftercare

Remove faded flowers during summer to prolong blooming. Remove any dead foliage in spring. Add grit to improve drainage where necessary. Suitable for gravel gardens.
