Dill ‘Thalia’ is a full-flavoured variety with attractive dark green wide fronds. Slow to bolt and with a wide range of culinary uses, this popular herb is a useful addition to the herb garden. Add it to fish or potato dishes or use to flavour pickles.

Sow indoors

Sow thinly in trays of firm pre-watered compost and cover with 0.5cm of vermiculite or sieved compost. Place in warmth, 15-20°C and keep moist at all times.

Grow on

Keep seedlings in a light position, shading from bright sunlight. When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings individually to small pots of potting compost.

Plant out

Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions for 2 to 3 weeks before planting out 20 cm apart.

Sow outdoors

Sow thinly 0.5cm deep direct in harvest position. Thin seedlings to 20cm apart. Keep soil moist at all times.

Tips

Dill is an annual and will need sowing every season.
