Eccremocarpus Seeds 'Fireworks'

Eccremocarpus Seeds 'Fireworks'

  • Self-twining climber
  • Red, orange and yellow flowers
  • Flowers for months
  • Train over an obelisk or pergola

Eccremocarpus ‘Fireworks’ (Chilean glory vine) is a fast-growing climber producing eye-catching red, orange and yellow tubular flowers for months in summer and early autumn. It looks spectacular trained up an obelisk or over a pergola.

This self-twining climber is best grown as an annual, although it may survive a mild winter outside.

Sow indoors

Almost fill a seed tray with moist seed compost. Sow seeds thinly over the surface, but do not cover with compost. Place in the warmth, 10-15°C and keep moist. As seedlings emerge, cover them with a trace of compost to provide anchorage.

Grow on

Keep seedlings in a light position, but shade from direct sunlight. When large enough to handle, transplant individually to 8cm pots of potting compost.

Harden off/plant out

Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions for 2-3 weeks before planting out when danger of frost has passed. Allow 60-90cm between plants.

Advice

Darkness and temperatures above 18°C will inhibit germination. The vines will support themselves with their tendrils as they climb.
