Sambucus nigra 'Black Tower'

This popular and very attractive deciduous shrub is prized for its striking foliage which emerges bright green in spring, turning deep burgundy in summer. Clusters of small pink scented flowers in summer stand out well against the dark leaves. Sambucus ‘Black Tower’ has a narrower shape than other varieties, needing less space in a border.

For the best leaf colour, plant Sambucus nigra 'Black Tower' in full sun. Cut back stems to ground level each year in spring and mulch well with compost or well-rotted farmyard manure.
